Electronic Arts Releases Multiplayer Version of Tetris for
**/Players to Battle Friends and Foes Over the Air /
/Using EA Mobiles Proprietary Technology/
**LOS ANGELES, Calif., March 21, 2007** Electronic Arts Inc.
(NASDAQ: ERTS) announced today that the worlds most popular mobile
game, /Tetris®/, will now be available to play with friends any time, in
real-time. The EA Mobile multiplayer games allow players to compete
with one another over the air, regardless of their locations, using
their mobile carriers network. These games will feature sophisticated
player-matching, chat and real-time multiplayer gameplay, using the EA
Mobile proprietary platform.
The great advantage of the mobile platform is its ability to connect
people. These games are designed to make use of the mobile phones
inherent internet connectivity and ensure that a heated competition is
never more than a few buttons away, said Michael Marchetti, VP and
Chief Operating Officer at EA Mobile. We are committed to building the
largest mobile gaming community, and we believe that multiplayer
versions of the most popular mobile games of all time will move us
closer to that goal.
Multiplayer gaming on a title like /Tetris/ is simple. Players can
choose to play against friends or let the system select a worthy
opponent. Dueling pairs can block one anothers efforts to clear lines
and play on one of two multiplayer modes Ultra allows gamers to race
each other on a two-minute clock and Forty Line challenges them to
clear 40 lines before their opponent.
As the world flattens, a widening demographic of mobile consumers look
to their mobile devices as a source for entertainment. EA Mobile is
entering the multiplayer gaming space at just the right time, as our
data indicates that mobile games consumption is on an upswing, with 9.1
percent of U.S. mobile subscribers reporting they played a downloaded
game in January. EA Mobiles leading mobile games /Tetris /and
/Bejeweled/, are excellent venues to introduce multiplayer to the
mainstream, said Seamus McAteer, Senior Analyst, M:Metrics.
Other current multiplayer titles from EA Mobile include /Bejeweled®, EA
Pool /and /JAMDAT Bowling 2/. These games will work cross-carrier so
that friends using different mobile providers will still be able to
compete in head-to-head competition.
