Major League Eating: The Game - Meet the Eaters Week 2

San Francisco, Calif. - May 27, 2008 - /Note to Editors: In Mastiff's
upcoming WiiWare(tm) release, /Major League Eating: The Game/ players
control professional eaters in epic one-on-one gurgitory battles. For
three weeks, we'll be releasing information about the eaters featured in
/Major League Eating: The Game/, including their real-life stats and
accomplishments, as well as their unique strengths and vulnerabilities
in the game. / / /

/Eater bios and art can be downloaded from the MMPR ftp site at
http://www.mmpr.com/MMPRFTP
,
inside the Mastiff folder./

Erik "The Red" Denmark
Seattle, WA
Age: 29
Weight: 208 pounds

Erik "the Red" Denmark, a golfer living in Seattle, embodies his
namesake's passionate hunger and also enjoys a similar respect - not
just from Greenlanders, but from all who have witnessed his tireless
determination at the competitive eating table. He boasts a tolerance for
hot and spicy fare, having performed in jalapeńos, huevos rancheros, and
buffalo wings. In /Major League Eating: The Game/, Erik dominates the
competition when shrimp is involved, and is especially strong when it
comes to Spicy, a flaming belch of flames. He's most vulnerable to
Rotten Food.

*Records:*
Native American Fry Bread: 9.75 in 8 minutes
Shrimp: 4 lbs, 15 oz. Spot shrimp in 12 minutes
45 Krystal Burgers in 8 minutes
61 Hard-Boiled Eggs in 8 minutes

Richard "The Locust" LeFevre
Henderson, NV
Age: 63
Weight: 132

The Locust is known for a strong jaw, and stomach capacity that seems to
increase, not decrease, as a contest progresses. Previously considered
an outsider in the competitive eating community, LeFevre embraced the
formal eating circuit for the first time in 2002, participating in hot
dogs, all-you-can-eat buffet and chili. Since then his prowess and
reputation have grown. In /Major League Eating: The Game/, LeFevre
shines when confronted with Jalapeńos or Spicy, but has difficulties
with Antacid.

*Records:*
Jalapeńos: 247 in 8 minutes
Huevos Rancheros: 7.75 lbs in 10 minutes
SPAM: 6 lbs in 12 minutes
Chili: 1.5 Gallons in 10 minutes

Patrick "Deep Dish" Bertoletti
Chicago, IL
Age: 22
Weight: 190

Patrick Bertoletti is a gurgitating force of nature. He has beaten every
major eater, taking out two superstars at one chomp on October 9, 2007
with his victory over Takeru Kobayashi and Joey Chestnut in the Spike TV
televised Las Vegas chicken wing "Chowdown." Bertoletti considers
himself a sweet specialist but proven himself capable of claiming
victory regardless of food type. Some say the intimate knowledge of food
he carries as a recent culinary school graduate gives him an unfair
advantage. Others credit his habit of using the music of Irish punk band
Dropkick Murphys, channeled in via earphones, to maintain pace during
competitions. However, no one disputes his stature as true force of
nature in competitive eating and one of the greatest eaters of all time.
In /Major League Eating: The Game/, Bertoletti is strong in Pizza-eating
events and Mustard Gas, a dangerous gaseous cloud, but weak against
Invincible.

*Records:*
Grits: 21 lbs in 10 minutes
Waffles: 14.5 lbs in 10 minutes
Strawberry Shortcake: 15.25 lbs in 8 minutes
Ice Cream: 1.75 Gallons in 8 minutes

"El Toro" Jimenez
Las Vegas, NV
Age: 30
Weight: 187

El Toro has a big mouth, although it doesn't seem to serve him well in
competition. Fond of extravagant claims, personal attacks on other
eaters and all sorts of theatrics, he is usually at the bottom of the
pack at the end of any given contest. Other eaters see him as abrasive,
offensive, and void of talent. He does, however, contribute to the sport
by setting an example of what not do

*Records:*
6.66 lbs Cranberry Sauce in 8 minutes
10 Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs in 12 minutes
11 Bratwurst in 10 minutes
34 Hard-Boiled Eggs in 8 minutes

Wii-kly Update: Two WiiWare Games and Two Virtual Console Games Added to Wii Shop Channel

This week’s Wii-kly Update pretty much covers the full spectrum.
Maybe you’ll want to blast away with an arsenal of old-school weapons. But
then again, three-day weekends are a good time to relax. So maybe you’ll
take a wild road trip or settle in for some table tennis. And if you
overdo it, we have a physician standing by.

Nintendo adds new and classic games to the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m.
Pacific time every Monday. Wii™ owners with a high-speed Internet
connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be
purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week’s new
games are:

WiiWare™

Dr. Mario® Online Rx (Nintendo, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone,
1,000 Wii Points): The doctor is in! Mario™ takes a break from his
adventuring ways and once again dons his stethoscope for a new generation
of germ-battling mayhem. In addition to the classic mode of using vitamins
to exterminate viruses, you’ll find two battle modes and an online
multiplayer mode where you can hone your skills against players from
around the world. Feel like challenging a friend who doesn’t have Dr.
Mario Online Rx? Then the WiiWare-exclusive Friend Battle Demo is just
what the doctor ordered. Or maybe you’d like some help taking on
those nasty viruses? Try out Virus Buster, where four players can
simultaneously move capsules simply by pointing at them with a Wii Remote™
controller. Any way you look at it, Dr. Mario Online Rx is a prescription
for fun that everyone can enjoy.

Family Table Tennis (Aksys Games, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone,
500 Wii Points): It’s time for some good old family fun, and what’s more
fun than table tennis? Just like a real family, choose your character from
a cast of four, which includes Daddy, Mommy, Sarah and Billy. There are
four table tennis-tastic stages where it doesn’t matter if you’re an
indoors or outdoors table-tennis player. Pick your poison from a
gymnasium, a forest park, a beach or even an amusement park. Choose from
Single or Versus mode, or select a minigame to play. In Versus mode, you
and a friend can play against each other to see who is the better
table-tennis player. And if Single and Versus modes aren’t enough, select
between three minigames, which include Target Table Tennis, Thrilling
Table Tennis and Matching Table Tennis. The appealing cell-shaded graphics
and endearing music, on top of the super-fun game play, will have you and
your family playing from morning till night. Get your paddles ready.

Virtual Console™

City Connection™ (NES®, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone –
Comic Mischief, Tobacco Reference, 500 Wii Points): Based on the arcade
hit, a young man born in California sets out to tour famous sites and
cities around the world. As he drives the highways surrounding these
locations, the road is painted white as proof of his visit. Only once all
sections of the road have been painted will he move on to the next
location in his world tour. Not surprisingly, the local police will chase
the driver and do their best to stop him from completing his goal. In
addition, cats roam the highways and spikes lie in wait for unsuspecting
drivers. To combat these dangers, the driver’s customized car can
jump, fire cans of oil and collect balloons to warp to a new stage. It’s
the ultimate road trip.

Metal Slug (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, Rated T for Teen – Blood, Violence,
900 Wii Points): Released in 1996 by SNK, Metal Slug is a side-scrolling
military-action game. Players control Marco and Tarma, both members of the
special-ops force Team Peregrine Falcon (commonly known as Team PF), and
battle their way through stage after stage of intense action. The goal is
to try to overthrow General Morden and win back the stolen weapon, the
Metal Slug. Players must blast through waves of enemies and machines
(while also jumping over any obstacles in the way) to advance through the
stages. It’s not as hopeless as it might sound, though—weapons such
as heavy machine guns, shotguns, rocket launchers and flamethrowers, as
well as the Metal Slug itself (which appears frequently in the game), will
make the battle easier. Take on General Morden with a friend to lighten
your load and ramp up the excitement even more.

NCsoft Covers New Ground in City of Heroes

/Newest expansion takes players to ancient city to save the present day/

* *

*AUSTIN, Texas, May 21, 2008*—NCsoft^® Corporation, the world’s leading
developer and publisher of online computer games, today announced the
release of /City of Heroes/^® “Issue 12: Midnight Hour.” The newest free
expansion for current subscribers, Issue 12 brings to life a special
covert group from the game’s lore, highly-anticipated Villain Epic
Archetypes, more powerset options and character slots for players, plus
a whole new Greek- and Roman-inspired zone to explore!

/City of Heroes/ Issue 12, developed and published by NCsoft, brings the
Midnight Squad out of the lore and into the game. The Midnight Squad is
the clandestine organization of mystics, scholars and mages who hold a
secret that could bring the alien group, the Rikti, to its knees.
Players are encouraged to help the Midnight Squad uncover the secret
that could help save Paragon City^™ and the Rogue Isles from further
alien assaults.

Part of this secret will be revealed in a new zone called Cimerora,
which uses the Ouroboros time travel system introduced in Issue 11. This
zone, inspired by ancient Greece and Rome, is only accessible by working
with the Midnight Squad. Once the player has access, both villains and
heroes must face deadly creatures and defeat an unexpected threat. As a
reward for their accomplishments in Cimerora, players can unlock special
Greek- and Roman-inspired armor and costumes.

Another key feature in Issue 12 is Villain Epic Archetypes. Now,
villains who reach level 50 unlock two brand new epic archetypes; Wolf
Spiders and Blood Widows. Wolf Spiders can specialize into Bane Spiders
or Crab Spiders, and Blood Widows can develop into Night Widows or
Fortunatas. Each specialty enjoys a unique set of wickedly powerful attacks.

Issue 12 also introduces Powerset Proliferation
, which
vastly increases the variety of villain and hero characters that players
can create. Some powersets, previously only available to hero

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue

Title: Gran Turismo 5 Prologue
Genre: Racing
Publisher: SCEA
Developer: Polyphony Digital
Release Date: April 15, 2008
ESRB: E
Rating: 8 out of 10

001-opt.png

If it seems like a year is too long to wait for Gran Turismo 5, then Sony will satisfy your love of the road with this abridged and early version. I sort of think that $39.99 is a lot for a teaser, but now that I’ve played it non-stop for days I think it is worth it.

It’s sort of weird how the game starts and you have nothing. You have to buy your first car, and then the collecting starts. Part of the game is about collecting new cars and they’re all different so it is always cool. There are only 60 cars. This is more than enough for me, but still it would be better if there were more. They are sorted by brand such as Ferrari, Acura, Honda, Ford, Mitsubishi, Dodge, etc. There’s plenty of variety in terms of learning how each car handles and accelerates. I’m psyched that I can race using my car, and Acura Integra. There’s not much tuning, but then again, that’s not what GT is for.

The graphics and audio are amazing and enveloping once properly configured. Watching a full 1080p on my 65” HDTV and listening to 7.1 multi-channel sound makes me feel as much of a race car driver as I’ve ever felt if not more so. If anything, GT5 Prologue shows us that GT5 will look stellar. The details are all there. Shadows sweep across the track, water ripples on infield lakes, the steering wheels are leather wrapped. The only disappointment is that the crowd looks like some cardboard cutouts – Sony would have been better off leaving the crowd out completely rather than doing a half-assed job.

007-opt.png

The graphics really shine when you start to change camera perspectives while driving. One view involves you sitting behind the wheel, steering left and right, shifting, and tilting your head from side to side. You’ve got side view and rear view mirrors. The details are noteworthy. I’ve never seen another racing game like this. Of course, I find that view hard to use for racing and opt to use one that is almost first person. I think, and I would for someone from Sony to give me a pixel count, that there are more pixels in the rear view mirror of GT5P than there were in the whole screen in my beloved GT on PSX.

04_Drift03-opt.jpg

So, I’ve lauded graphics, sound, car selection, but what’s missing? I’ll tell you what is missing – tracks. There are only six tracks in GT5P which means that you can learn them quickly and then get a little bored. Apparently it takes more time to make a track than to make a car, which makes sense. There is variety in the choice of tracks, from the straightaways of Daytona to the twisty mountain roads of Eiger. There’s an assist line, but it is more fun to pick your own line. My personal favorite typically involves passing on the grass.

004a-opt.png

The AI is good, definitely improved. Opponents now jockey for position and cut your off when you try to pass. But still, the AI isn’t that challenging. The game really shines online. After suffering through the required 3 system updates I was able to go online and compete against actual humans. Matching takes place very quickly and the races have close to no lag time. The only funkiness that I noticed was that in crowded races (up to 16 total cars), if there are collisions in the pack then the graphics drop down which sort of makes sense because 4 cars colliding at 125 mph is a lot of info to push all over the world.

55_DrivingLine-opt.jpg

Overall, GT5P is great, but short. It is, after all, a teaser of what is to come. And what a tease. Life should have more teases like this. I still think it should cost less, or maybe Sony should have released a version with less cars and less tracks that was completely free. It’s sort of like paying to be teased (I could of course talk about other things that are like paying to be teased but I’m trying to keep this clean). My guess is that I’m going to play the hell out of this for a week or two, then play once in a while, and finally stop playing it entirely when GT5 ships.

NCsoft Q1 Financial Results

/Results Show Quarterly Consolidated Sales of KRW 88.1 Billion,
Operating Income of KRW 19.7 Billion and Net Profit of KRW 8.1 Billion;
Operating Income is up 63% Quarter over Quarter and Increases 16% Year
over Year/

SEOUL, South Korea-- NCsoft^® Corporation (KSE: 036570.KS) today
announced financial results for the quarter ended March 31, 2008. On a
consolidated basis, sales came to KRW (Korean Won) 88.1 billion (US
$84.3 million), operating income of KRW 19.7 billion (US $18.9 million),
and net profit of KRW 8.1 billion (US $7.7 million). Operating profit
showed significant improvements quarter over quarter (63%) and year over
year (16%).

Popularity of the /Lineage/^® series in Asia, sustained sales of /Guild
Wars/^® and /City of Heroes/^® in North America and Europe, and a
decrease in expenses such as advertising and other variable sales costs
were some of the primary reasons for the increase in operating income.
Of note in Q1 2008, /Lineage II/ reached record-high sales since its
2003 release.

In Q1 2008, NCsoft decided to take a one time write-off expense for the
advanced development costs associated with the Spacetime Studios
project, after determining the project did not fit into the company’s
core development plan. That left a net profit decrease of 22% quarter
over quarter and 43% year over year. However, excluding the write-off
expenses, net profit would be KRW 15.2 billion (US $14.5 million) an
increase of 48% quarter over quarter and 8% from the same quarter last
year.

By region, sales came to KRW 49.8 billion (US $47.7 million) in South
Korea, KRW 10.9 billion (US $10.4 million) in North America, KRW 8.9
billion (US $8.5 million) in Europe, KRW 9.6 billion (US $9.2 million)
in Japan, KRW 2.8 billion (US $2.7 million) in Taiwan, and KRW 6 billion
(US $5.7 million) in royalty income. The percentage breakdown of sales
by region shows 57% in Korea, 12% in North America, 10% in Europe, 11%
in Japan, 3% in Taiwan and 7% from royalty income.

By game title, sales came to KRW 29 billion (US $27.8 million) from
/Lineage/, KRW 35.7 billion (US $34.1 million) from /Lineage II/, KRW
5.4 billion (US $5.2 million) from /City of Heroes/City of Villains/^®
and KRW 9.5 billion (US $9.1 million) from /Guild Wars./ The percentage
breakdown of sales by game title shows 35% from /Lineage/, 43% from
/Lineage II/ , 7% from /City of Heroes/City of Villains/ and 12% from
/Guild Wars./

NCsoft CFO Jaeho Lee said, “As proven once again in the Q1 financial
results, we strongly believe our key franchise products, such as
/Lineage /and /Guild Wars/, will meet our sales target with a strong
customer base and continued content updates going forward.” And he
added, “We plan to ensure the smooth launch of many new products in the
next two to three years, which will strengthen our position as a global
leader in online games.”

This summer NCsoft plans to launch its third closed beta test of /Aion^®
/ before formally launching the much anticipated product later in the
year. Casual online games such as /Point Blank/^™ /, Punch Monster/^™ /,
Dragonica/^™ /, /and/ Love Beat/^™ are also scheduled for an official
service launch later in the year.
